Hardhack Spiraea douglasii Douglas Meadowsweet
Description Hardhack is a member of the family Rosaceae which includes about 2000 species of trees, shrubs, and herbs worldwide; approximately 77 native and 9 naturalized tree species and many species of shrubs and herbs in North America; including service-berries (Amelanchier), hawthorns (Crataegus), apples (Malus), plums and cherries (Prunus), and mountain-ashes (Sorbus). Leaves: alternate, generally simple, with paired stipules. Flowers: small to large, bisexual, usually regular or sometimes slightly irregular, generally with cuplike base that bears 5 sepals, 5 petals, and many separate stamens, and with 1 to many simple pistils or 1 compound pistil. Fruit: a drupe, pome, achene, or follicle.
