Red-faced Cormorant
Phalacrocorax urile

© Harold Lindstrom

The Red-faced Cormorant is one of several seabirds confined to the northernmost parts of the Pacific Ocean. Based on its appearance and its courtship displays, it seems most closely related to the Pelagic Cormorant. But the Red-faced is more social than the Pelagic and nests on the open tops of cliffs, areas the Pelagic normally avoids.

description 28-30" (71-76 cm). Similar to Pelagic Cormorant but larger, with brighter red throat pouch extending onto face, and pale bill. Young birds are dull brown but still have red face and pale bill.
