 In North America, this species is found only in the Florida Keys and on the adjacent Gulf Coast of Florida as far north as Tampa Bay. It is difficult to observe, remaining hidden in dense thickets much of the time. Strictly insectivorous, it feeds on hairy caterpillars, grasshoppers, moths, larvae, and spiders.

description 12" (30 cm). Brown above, rich buff or tawny below, with black facial mask; curved bill. Tail long and graduated, with black-and-white spots at tip.
