Description Adults are gray-brown above, with pale supercilium and red sides to dark-tipped tail. Breeding male has blue throat with red central spot; underparts are white. Female and nonbreeding male are similar, but blue on throat is reduced or absent. Juvenile recalls female, but is warmer brown above; has dark-bordered white throat.

Discussion Mainly Eurasian species that breeds (May-Aug) in western Alaska.
