Description The Hoary Elfin or Callophrys polios is a Gossamer-wing Butterflies from the Lycaenidae family found in North America.

Similar species in Henry's Elfin's range include the Frosted Elfin (Callophrys irus), the Brown Elfin (Callophrys augustinus), and the Hoary Elfin (Callophrys polios).

The Hoary Elfin is smaller, males have a stigma, it lacks hindwing tails, the underside of the hind wing outer margin is completely frosted, and the fore wing outer margin is also frosted.

Dimensions 3/4-1" (19-25 mm).

Habitat Meadows & fields, Scrub, shrub & brushlands, Alpine & subalpine habitats.

Range New England, Plains, Rocky Mountains, Alaska, California, Eastern Canada, Southwest, Great Lakes, Northwest, Mid-Atlantic, Western Canada.
