Description Perennial. Habit: erect, height to 7 ft, with a strong odor of anise. Leaf: wispy, finely dissected, up to 20 inches long. Flower: broad yellow umbel, 2-6 inch dia.
Flower May - September.
Habitat Found in large stands on disturbed sites and river banks.
Range Continental U.S.
Discussion Native to Europe. Introduced in colonial times as a culinary plant, fennel escaped cultivation and is now considered an invasive species in the continental U.S., Hawaii, and Canada.
