Description Native perennial. Height: 1-3'. Habit: clumping, narrowly erect, may flop if top heavy. Leaf: 2" long, grass- or fern-like; yellow fall color. Flower: pale blue, 5-pointed star, borne in loose clusters 1-4" across at the top of each stem.

Blooms late spring to early summer.

Habitat Dry, well-drained sandy soils.

Range West of the Mississippi: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri.
East of the Mississippi: Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina.

Comments This plant becomes aggressive in rich, garden soil. It does need some summer water. To keep blue star erect and bushy, cut it back after it has flowered.
