Description More than 12" (30 cm) wide, 2" (5 cm) tall, less than 3/8" (1 cm) thick. Pores cover uneven, friable surface in conical projections. Yellow and light green coloration.


Habitat Rocks, Piers, driftwood & pilings.


Range Eastern Canada, California, Northwest, New England, Western Canada, Alaska.


Discussion When touched, the Gunpowder Sponge releases a toxin with an pungent garlic-like odor as a deterrent to predators.
