Dimensions 20.3-37.5cm. (8-14 3/4")
Breeding Breeds in spring. 1-8 eggs, 23mm (7/8") long laid June-July. Incubated for 7 weeks, young 8-10cm (3-4"0 long.
Habitat Loose, rocky soil in woodlands, hillsides, near streams and farmland.
Range Nebraska, Iowa to Mississippi River and Louisiana.
Discussion Rarely spotted since it is secretive. Hides in deep soil in cold and dry weather, prefers moist situations. Diet of worms, milk snakes and kingsnakes. Wont bit if handled.
