Description No belly markings. Reddish-brown. Sides have dark stripes, interspersed with light stripes. Blue patch on sides of throat on males. Breeding females have orange patches on throat.
Dimensions 10.2-17.4cm. (4-6 7/8")
Breeding Eggs laid in June, one clutch per year. Hatch July-August.
Habitat Hardwood or coniferous forests, 5,000-9,600' (1,500-2,9000m).
Range Arizona, New Mexico into Mexico.
Discussion Diurnal. Insects form main diet. Hunts along ground in search. Climbs easily if threatened.
