Description Small. Gray/brown. Small black flecks. Spade on hind foot. Dark throat on male.


Dimensions 2.2-4.1cm. (7/8-1 5/8")


Voice Buzzing bleat, similar to sheep.


Breeding March-September. After rains in favourable water levels. Eggs laid in water and lot on top like a surface film.


Habitat Woodland, marshes and grassland.


Range Nebraska through Texas into Mexico.


Discussion Diet is mainly of ants. Nocturnal. Hides underground or amongst leaf litter, rocks and fallen logs.
