Description Green-dark green with white line along upper jaw. Yellowish flecks on back. Toe pads large.
Dimensions 2.2-4.1cm. (7/8-1 5/8")
Voice Nasal trill used as a mating call. Grunting quack before rainfall.
Breeding March-October in the south. April-August in north. Breeds among vegetation. Eggs attached to underwater vegetation at waters edge.
Habitat Temperate forests, woodland near water.
Range Texas to Virginia.
Discussion Call normally heard before/after rainfall. Nocturnal. Diet is mainly of insects. Avid hunter, often catches insects around porch/patio lights. Hides under garden shrub for protection, often found in a group of a few dozen.
