Description Has a long tail that is red on the underside. Winter form is paler, but still has red tail.


Dimensions 223-248mm, 100-121mm, 53-62g


Habitat Alpine & subalpine habitats, Canyons & caves, Forests & woodlands


Range Rocky Mountains, Southwest, Northwest, Western Canada


Discussion Common in dense coniferous forests. Some suggest that the northern subspecies T. r. simulans should be elevated to full species based on the morphology of their genital bones.
