Deer Mouse Peromyscus maniculatus

Track Hindprints are 5/8" (1517 mm) long, with 5 toes showing; foreprints smaller, with 4 toes; both feet have outer toes pointing to the side. Hindprints are placed in front of foreprints.

Sign Leaves piles of nuts, cherry pits, or seeds under logs or in nooks in buildings.
Prairie form: Small burrows in ground or nests in raised areas, if available.
Woodland form: Nests in hollow logs.
Western forms: Nests in such protected places as underground burrows, clumps of vegetation, hollow limbs on or above the ground, and rock crevices, among others. Often lives in abandoned bird's nest, building a roof over it with new nesting material, or in cavity in tree.
