Track Foreprints are 2" (50 mm) long, showing 4 long toes; hindprints similar but longer when heel leaves impression in soil, and showing 5 toes. Trail is usually found in disturbed earth around burrow.
Sign Large burrow openings, 8–12" (200–300 mm) across, with mounds of dirt just outside main entrance; often additional escape openings flush with ground, with no mounds. When hay is high, woodchucks tramp down trails, which radiate from burrows.
Scat: Droppings variable, usually more than 1" (25 mm) long.
