Hoary Marmot Marmota caligata

Track Front Prints may not show fifth toe, prints about 1 1/2" (44mm) long; hindprints longer when heel leaves impression in soil, and showing 5 toes. Trail is usually found in soft earth on a ledge.

Sign Den is often hidden among rocks or is a large burrow 915" (230380 mm) wide with fans or mounds of dirt at openings. Gives loud, piercing whistle when alarmed. Signs are best distinguished from Yellow-bellied Marmot's by range.
Scat: Droppings variable, usually more than 1" (25 mm) long.
