Ringtail Bassariscus astutus

Track Not easily found in this animal's dry and often rocky habitat; most likely to be found in dust on the floor of dry, shallow caves or on sheltered ledges. Prints 12 3/4" (2570 mm) long, 2" (50 mm) wide, cat-like, except that foreprint shows an extra pad just behind the main one. 5 toes on each foot, with no claws showing, no long heel print.

Sign Den: In cliffs, between or under rocks, or in a hollow tree, stump, or log. Tree holes, often small, with gnawed rim.
Scat: Usually elongated and cylindrical, but with great variation in size and shape; in dry habitat, tends to crumble. Frequently contains fragments of insect prey.
