Alternate name: Silvercrown Luina

Family: Asteraceae, Aster view all from this family

Description Golden yellow, rayless flower heads in a narrow cluster atop stout stems growing from a cluster of basal leaves.
Flowers: Head 1/2-3/4" (1.5-2 cm) long; bracts of about equal length, lined up side by side, barely overlapping.
Leaves: Blades to 8" (20 cm) long, nearly round, palmately cleft, coarsely toothed, long-stalked.
Fruit: Seed-like, slender, with numerous fine bristles at tip.
Height: 1-3' (30-90 cm).

Flower May-July.

Habitat Meadows and open woods in mountains.

Range Washington south along Cascade Range to northern California, and south in Northern Coast Ranges to upper San Francisco Bay.

Discussion This is the only species in the genus Cacaliopsis. It is sometimes included in Luina, a small genus of western North America.
