Description A small plant with slender, hairy flower stems that are shorter than the long stiff leaves.
Flowers: 3/4" (2 cm), star-like, with 6 yellow petals.
Leaves: 12" (30 cm) long, grass-like, hairy, basal.
Height: flower stalk 2 1/4-7" (17 cm).
Flower Year-round (mainly spring).
Habitat Pine flatwoods, wet ditches.
Range Southeastern tip of North Carolina south to southern Florida, west to southeastern Alabama.
Discussion This diminutive member of the lily family is easily mistaken for a grass if its flowers are not seen. It is a native of the Southeast.
