Family: Arecaceae, Palm view all from this family

Description Introduced. A tall tropical palm; bears the familiar coconut.
Height: 80-100' (24-30 m).
Trunk: smooth, grayish-brown, straight, leaning, or gently curving trunk; swollen at base; with conspicuous rings and vertical cracks.
Leaves: feather-like, 18-23' (5.4-7 m) long; pinnately divided into linear-lanceolate segments.
Fruit: coconut enclosed in large green to brown husk, to 16" (40 cm) long; year-round.

Habitat Beaches, disturbed areas, towns.

Range Coastal southern Florida.

Discussion The Coconut Palm has been grown for centuries in North America but is native to tropical islands of the Pacific. It has become naturalized in some areas of southern Florida.
