Description More than 24" (61 cm) high, more than 18" (46 cm) wide. Upright, branching or platelike, on coral rock or encrusting mollusk shells or skeletons of horny corals. Brown to creamy-yellow. Covered with tiny pores occupied by whitish polyps.
Warning Highly toxic. People touching the Fire Coral suffer a severe burning sensation and blistery rash.
Habitat Coral reefs, cement pilings, and other submerged structures.
Range Florida to Mexico; Bahamas; West Indies.
