Description 5" (127 mm) high, 3" (76 mm) wide. Columnar, smooth. Red, sometimes mottled, occasionally with dull green spots. 100 thick, blunt tentacles arranged in several rings around the mouth; white, frequently ringed with red, white, or dark pigment. Particles of shell and gravel often attached to column.

Habitat Firmly attached to rocks, usually in protected places shaded by seaweeds or overhanging rocks; near low-tide line and below in shallow water.

Range Arctic to Cape Cod; Alaska to c. California.

Discussion Specimens found above low-tide line are usually small; larger ones are subtidal. This handsome anemone is listed in some references as T. felina.
