Description 3/8" (8-9 mm). Slender, pointed head. Pale yellow to brownish; or bright green or blue. Fore wings are mostly orange to red, edged in green or blue, with a diagonal stripe of same color forming a deep V when wings are folded together over back.
Food Juices of weeds and cultivated plants.
Life Cycle Eggs are thrust into soft plant issues in early spring. Nymphs are mostly green. Adults overwinter in leaf trash on the ground. 1 or more generations a year.
Habitat Meadows and gardens.
Range E. United States and adjacent areas of Canada.
Discussion Saliva injected into a plant by this leafhopper blocks plant tubes essential for the transport of sap, causing the plant to wither and drop leaves.
