Description Green-brown. Light colored dorsolateral ridges with dark spots in-between. Stripe along upper jaw. Pointed snout.
Dimensions 5.1-12.7cm. (2-5")
Subspecies Florida Leopard Frog - Florida Keys-n. Florida.
Southern Leopard Frog - New York to Texas along eastern seaboard.
Voice Throaty croak.
Breeding In south year round. Several hundred eggs laid at the bottom of shallow water. Tadpoles aquatic for first 90 days.
Habitat Freshwater. Moist vegetation in summer, ponds/marshes rest of year.
Range New York, Florida Keys, Texas, Oklahome through Kansas.
Discussion Nocturnal. Carnivorous. Eats anything it can fit in its mouth. Dives into water to escape predators. Main predators include raccoons and waterbirds. Hunted for it's legs in the south, which are thought to be a delicacy.
