Description Rough skinned. Green-tan in color with a black strop though eye & cheek. Gray throat on males.
Dimensions 2-5cm. (3/4-2")
Voice 2-part musical sound.
Breeding Early winter-spring. 10-90 eggs laid on underwater vegetation near waters edge. Hatches within 3 weeks, transforms after 2 1/2 months.
Habitat Various near aquatic settings.
Range West Coast of the United States (from North California, Oregon, and Washington) to British Columbia in Canada.
Discussion Active day/night. Matures quickly, able to breed the next breeding season after hatching. It's call used a lot in Hollywood films for an "authentic" outside nighttime sound.
