Description 5/8-1 1/4" (1.6-3.2 cm). A tiny agile frog, with truncated toe pads and no webs. Brown to reddish-brown, with either dark mottling or light dorsolateral stripes. Eyes red to scarlet. Belly white with fine brown stippling.
Voice A musical chirp repeated several times.
Breeding With warm summer rains. Eggs are laid among vegetation. Tadpole develops inside the egg; young frog emerges with a tiny tail that is quickly lost.
Habitat On the ground whenever there is shelter and moisture. Likes greenhouses, gardens, and hardwood hammocks with damp leaf litter in which to burrow.
Range Widely introduced throughout the Florida peninsula.
Discussion Nocturnal. On humid nights it is frequently seen foraging on lawns. It can be brought out and encouraged to call by sprinkling.
