Description Brown/black to dusky with speckled underside. Small round white spots on sides. 14 costal grooves.
Dimensions 7.6-16.2cm. (3-6 3/8")
Breeding September-October. Female guards nest in Alabama.
Habitat Tannic, swampy areas near ponds or on the flood plain of streams and rivers.
Range Virginia to Florida coastal plain. Also in Texas.
Discussion Hides under forest debris. Adapts pigment of color to camouflage itself. Shares habitat with Rusty Mud Salamander.
