Description Terrestrial. Tan-reddish brown back stripe. Short rounded tail. 13-14 costal grooves.
Dimensions 3.7-5.1cm. (1 1/2-2")
Breeding Spring-fall. 3-8 Eggs laid, dangling from rock on a stalk. Nests in wet gravel near streams/springs. Hatches in fall.
Habitat Temperate forests, intermittent rivers, and freshwater springs.
Range Appalachians in sw. Virginia through North Carolina.
Discussion Hides under forest debris. Forages at night for small insects. Congregates underground in groups in winter.
