Description Darkly colored with black stripes and a pale line from eyes to jaw. Older examples lose stripes.
Dimensions 7-10.2cm. (3 2/4-4")
Breeding Unknown.
Habitat Temperate forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, freshwater springs, and rocky areas.
Range North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains near the Tennessee border.
Discussion Is under wet forest foliage most of the time. Surfaces to hunt. Diet consists mainly of small invertebrates. Very hard to distinguish from the Appalachian woodland Salamander and the Mountain Dusky Salamander. Imitator distinguished by its preference for higher elevations.
