Description Tiny shrew with a very short tail (<45% of head and body length). Smaller and browner than other short-tailed shrews in their range.


Dimensions 61-89mm, 19-37mm, 3-10g


Habitat Forests & woodlands, Swamps, marshes & bogs, Meadows & fields


Range Plains, Great Lakes, New England, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Florida, Texas, Eastern Canada


Discussion Nests are constructed of grass and leaves in hidden areas, and may contain up to 31 individuals. Occurs in wide variety of habitats, including grassy, weedy, and brushy fields, marshes, and wooded habitats.
