Coast - Similar to St. Helena. Santa Cruz & Clara counties to Santa Barbara, California.
San Bernadino - Dark snout, more than 37 tri colored rings on body. San Gabriel, Bernadino and Jacinto mountains, California.
San Diego - 36 tri colored rings. San Diego, California.
Breeding 3-8 eggs laid in July. Incubated for 9-10 weeks. 20cm (8") when hatched.
Habitat Sierra Nevada pine belt to Coast Ranges Charparral forests.
Range Sierra Nevada Mountains, California to Oregon. Also San Francisco Bay to Baja California.
Discussion Also known as Coral Kingsnake. Dirunal, during hot weather nocturnal. Hides under rocks and logs before hunting. Lizards, small snakes, birds and eggs form main diet. Longest living was 24 years.
