Family: Plethodontidae, Lungless Salamanders view all from this family

Description Small & slender. Red/orange/yellow back stripe with wavy border. 17-19 costal grooves.

Dimensions 6.4-11.1cm. (2 1/2-4 3/8")

Breeding Nests underground. No aquatic stage.

Habitat Temperate forests, rocky areas, and caves.

Range Indiana through c. Alabama.

Discussion Undergound May-September. Found in wet areas in winter, mostly fallen logs. Ozark Salamander formerly thought as a subspecies.
