Description 2" (5 cm). Elongate, rounded, small-eyed; back dusky to dark olive; sides gray-green with dark lateral stripe, often obscured by dark speckles or blotches; unmarked below. Snout moderately pointed; mouth small. Fins plain; tail fin forked. Lateral line complete.

Endangered Status The Ash Meadows Speckled Dace, a subspecies of the Speckled Dace, is on the U.S. Endangered Species List. It is classified as endangered in Nevada, where it lives in springs in the Amargosa River drainage system. This subspecies has been affected by changes to its habitat, mainly caused by water diversion and channeling practices, and by the introduction of non-native fishes into its waterways. Any species that has small populations in restricted habitats is vulnerable to any changes in the environment.
