Description Adult has dark green upperparts with sheen in good light; underparts are white, except for orange vent and black foreneck. In winter plumage, throat and foreneck are white, nape is flushed with buff, and back feathers have buffy fringes.

Discussion Spiky-crested wader that looks black and white at a distance. Rounded, black and white wings are striking in flight. Eurasian species, rare in northeast in fall and winter, favoring open grassland.
