Description Body plus longest arm 36" (1 m) long. Globe-shaped, with 4 pairs of arms. Tan to reddish-brown, with whitish spots; color changeable. Arms long, more than 7 times body length, with 2 alternating rows of suckers; tubular siphon under neck. Head almost as broad as body; eyes high on sides of head, with bump above each. Skin with small warts.

Habitat Among coral reefs and coral rock.

Range Florida Keys; West Indies.

Discussion This octopus discharges a dark brownish ink when disturbed, thus confusing possible predators. O. macropus feeds principally on various kinds of crabs, which it captures with one or more of its arms.
