Family: Caprifoliaceae, Honeysuckle view all from this family

Description A shrub with downy twigs, coarsely toothed leaves, and flat-topped clusters of small, white flowers.
Flowers: 1/5" (5 mm) wide, in clusters 2-3" (5-7.5 cm) wide; petals 5.
Leaves: 1 1/2-3" (3.8-7.5 cm) long; rounded or heart-shaped at the base, opposite, ovate, or egg-shaped, with saw-like teeth.
Fruit: purplish-black or blue-gray berry-like drupes.
Height: 3-15' (1-4.5 m).
Flowering: May-August.

Habitat Wet or dry thickets and borders of woods.

Range Ontario to New Brunswick; south to Florida; west to Texas.

Discussion Some botanists recognize two separate species for this highly variable plant, the other being northern Arrowwood (V. recognitum) with smooth twigs.
