Morro Bay Kangaroo Rat

Why does the Morro Bay Kangaroo Rat convert dry seeds into water? Do they hibernate?

Wildlife Expert - David Herlocker

Kangaroo rats (and many other desert dwelling rodents) can live without ever drinking water by processing the moisture in their diet very efficiently. Even in a place where water is occasionally available, kangaroo rats seldom need to drink. These rodents are nocturnal and they may be active all year.
