It is a fallacy (legend) that by keeping hummingbird feeders up in the fall it will delay the migration of the birds. The hummingbirds' migration is controlled by the decreasing amount of sunlight, not food. Therefore, I would suggest that you keep your sugar water feeders up as long as possible to give those migrating birds from farther north a chance to refuel at your feeders as they make their way south. They need the energy your feeders can give them.
