The Eastern Fox Squirrel is native throughout Minnesota. What led you to believe otherwise? Northern Minnesota is the edge of its range, so it probably is less abundant there than in central portions of its range. Although it is closely related to the Eastern Gray Squirrel, I don't know of any instance of hybrids.
