Are there any snakes in Alaska?

Wildlife Expert - Ken Burton

The short answer is "probably not." There have been some unsubstantiated reports of garter snakes (presumably either Common or Western Terrestrial) on the Taku and Stikine Rivers but the only purported specimen is lost. If valid, these snakes probably dispersed downriver from Canada, but there is no evidence of snakes in the upper reaches of these rivers. The status of snakes in Alaska remains enigmatic.
