Do you know what the grayish small catepillar looking thing that I called an asp as a kid is really called? I thught maybe it was a nymph of an insect. They sting and it feels like fire. We have a kindergarten class looking for this info.

Asp is a nickname for the Puss Caterpillar, Megalopyge opercularis. This is the larva (not a nymph) of a seldom-seen, nocturnal flannel moth. The caterpillar is covered with hairs that conceal venomous spines.
