pine trees and water absorption

We had five very large pine trees cut. Now we are having a problem with a very soggy backyard. Is this because the pine trees were drinking so much? Or should we look for some other answer?

Five large trees absorbed a lot of water and the best thing I can think of is to plant more trees and shrubs. They don't have to be large trees, and in addition to solving your problem, you will create habitat to boot! Another option is to create a bog garden at the lowest point and divert any standing water after a rain to that area. Add appropriate plants that enjoy wet feet, but that can also take an occasional dry spell. Good luck!
