When we first bought the house, my husband thought we had moved to hell. Everything was dry and caked. Immediately we started buying plants and planting them. We were chipping holes in the clay. Our neighbors leaned over the fence and suggested it might not be a good idea. Of course they all died. We started reading about the Tennessee environment. We learned the best time to plant was winter, when the rains come, so the root structures can take hold. Now we do our plant shopping on New Years Ev
