My backyard was always wet, from rain and septic system outflow. I dug out part of the lawn to create a minature wetland and raised dry bed area, filling the low area with bullrock and gravel and populating it with waterloving plants - ginger, elephants ears, iris, etc. The raised bed was planted with more conventional plants and flowers to attract birds, butterflies and bees. Backdrop to this is tall shrubbery and huge (60') pecan trees and oaks populated by squirrels.
